METZ veröffentlichte 2012 ihr selbstbetiteltes Sub Pop-Debüt und hat seitdem kontinuierlich ihren Ruf als eine der aufregendsten Live-Acts und vertrauenswürdige Anbieter von bombastischem Outsider-Rock gefestigt.
Mit „Automat“ wird am 12. Juli 2019 eine chronologische Reise durch das weniger bekannte Material von METZ via Sub Pop weltweit veröffentlicht. „Automat“ ist eine Sammlung von METZ Non-Album-Singles, B-Seiten und Raritäten aus dem Jahr 2009, die erstmals auf LP erhältlich ist und die langen vergriffenen frühen (Pre-Sub-Pop-)Aufnahmen der Band enthält. Die Band besteht aus Alex Edkins, Hayden Menzies und Chris Slorach.
Alex Edkins über „Automat”: „The idea to release „Automat” came after realizing our early 7" singles were being sold online for upwards of $60 bucks a pop. We wanted to make those songs available
and affordable to anyone who might want them in the physical format. What started as reissuing a couple of 45s, quickly morphed into an entire LP, compiling rarities, demos and alternate takes
from over the years.”
Mit „Pure Auto” veröffentlichen METZ nun zeitgleich auch ein neues Video. „„Pure Auto” is METZ at our most tongue in cheek,” sagt Edkins. „There are many winks and many nods (autonomy, me, me,
me, me, me, for example) but ultimately it’s about being a control freak; fighting the urge to constantly steer the ship. Originally released as the B-side to the „Eraser” 7" it has never been
played live, but for some reason still manages to be one of our collective favorites. It was written and recorded very quickly after completing the II album sessions and came out of a surge of
creativity/excitement/relief following a particularly intense and time-consuming album."
Die KäuferInnen des Vinylformats von „Automat“ werden mit einer Bonus-Single belohnt, die drei weitere Tracks enthält: „Pig“, ein Cover von SPARKLEHORSE aus einer sehr limitierten Split-Single
des Record Store Day 2012, die ursprünglich im Sonic Boom Plattenladen in Toronto veröffentlicht wurde; „I'm A Bug“, ein Cover von THE URINALS' Art-Punk-Klassiker, der 2014 ursprünglich auf
YouTube (kein echtes Plattenlabel) veröffentlicht wurde; und METZs bisher unveröffentlichte Version von GARY NUMANs „M.E.“.
Alle Tracks auf „Automat“ wurden von Matthew Barnhart vom Chicago Mastering Service liebevoll remastered.
METZ reisen im Juni nach Übersee, um 14 Termine in EU wahrzunehmen, darunter Auftritte beim Loose Ends Festival in Amsterdam, dem Lars Rock Festival in Chiusi Scalo in Italien, dem Pointu
Festival in Island Gaou, Frankreich und am 14. Juli in Montmartin-sur-Mer, Frankreich. Am 11. Juli spielen METZ im TOWER Musikclub in Bremen als einzigen Deutschland-Gig.
